What is Hanukkah?

The Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” is celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers, and fried foods. The Hebrew word Hanukkah means “dedication,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple. Also spelled Chanukkah (or variations of that spelling), the Hebrew word is actually pronounced with a guttural, “kh” sound, kha-nu-kah, not tcha-new-kah.

When is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah 2021 will begin on the evening of Sunday, November 28, and ends on the evening of Monday, December 6.
