Upcoming Jewish Holidays

Yom Kippur

September 29, 2017, Eve of Yom Kippur-Kol Nidre. Kol Nidre means “all vows” and is the start of the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

September 30, 2017, Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur is a solemn holiday of fasting and praying. The fast enables us to put aside our physical desires and the concentrate on our spiritual needs through prayer, repentance and self-improvement. The giving of Tzedakah (charity) is a custom at this time of year. In the days before Yom Kippur, Jews seek out people whom they have wronged and personally ask for forgiveness. Most people spend the day in synagogue and enjoy a “break-the-fast” meal after sundown.
